Cheer competitions have an unusual rubric compared to many different types of events. This article will not dive deeply into how the rubrics work, but will provide insight into how these events can make LiveJudge work for them.
Teams
In cheer, like some other performance-based sports, judges are often divided into "execution" and "technical difficulty" because one brain cannot manage everything efficiently. LiveJudge's standard engine works great out of the box for execution. Setting up the event, however, requires a brief bit of guidance.
Setup
In cheer, judges do not know, ahead of time, what stunts the team will perform or how many groups within the team will participate in each stunt. In our system, the event admin must construct a class with a combination of mandatory and freestyle judging factors. Rather than try to list all of the possible elements, we recommend creating individual overarching freestyle factors like "Building Skills" which encompass all elements of the routine that fit in that category. The "tech judge" can compute the multiplier (off of LiveJudge) and merely enter the final number into the "Building Skills" input box for that team. The system will recalculate the score using that multiplier. If a team challenges the multiplier because they dispute, say, the number of groups involved, the tech can just change the multiplier and recalculate the score with the click of a button.
